The public is invited to attend a victim impact panel Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Department of Correctional Services in Davenport.
Victim impact panels are shared personal experiences of local victims, told to both offenders and the local community.
Because crime is a violation of both the victim and the community as a whole, the victim impact panels have been shown to be an effective way of educating offenders and the general public about the unknown aftereffects and struggles of victims.
Victim speakers share their personal stories, express their feelings and thoughts, share the impact it had on their lives, help offenders understand that crimes are committed against real people, and describe how a victim’s life may be changed forever.
The types of crimes include: property crime, drugs, crimes against the elderly, child maltreatment, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, sober, drunk driving, homicide, and range violence
Victim presenters are:
Jill Pepper, Property Crimes
Paula Severe, Drunk Driving
Stephanie Stebens, Drunk Driving
Susan Branstetter, Homicide
The panel will be held at 605 Main Street in conference room 530.
