Many Instagram users are receiving an error message that says ‘no internet connection’ this week, leaving them unable to use the social media app. It’s appearing in a pop-up box at the bottom of the profile alongside another message that says ‘couldn’t load posts’.

The issues began at the start of July and have continued into the month, with some having problems for more than four days now. Frustration over the malfunction is growing on Twitter where many are moaning about the message. Read on to find out what’s going on with Instagram

Why Instagram says ‘no internet connection’

Instagram says ‘no internet connection’ because the app is experiencing technical issues. There’s nothing wrong with your device or network connection, there is a bug within the site that’s causing certain features to malfunction.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Instagram please fix your app!! My Insta says there is no internet connection when obviously there is for like two days now.”

“My Instagram has had no internet connection for 24 hours now apparently…and I’m not the only one,” someone else tweeted.

Glitches are common on all social media sites and Instagram often goes down. Last month, the site began showing a ‘welcome to Instagram’ error to existing users, acting as though they had just joined the app.

Sadly, there’s not much you can do apart from waiting for Instagram to fix the error. However, Instagram has outlined some troubleshooting tips to try if your app isn’t working properly. Find them below.

Anyone else having these “Couldn’t load posts” and “No internet connection” errors with Instagram ever since last night when accessing the app via an iPhone?
It works perfectly fine on my laptop via the browser so it’s definitely an iOS app issue. @instagram @InstagramComms

How to report the bug to Instagram

If none of the above resolves the problem, Instagram says you should report the issue to Meta. Here’s how to do it:

  • Go to your Instagram profile.
  • Click on the three lines in the top-right.
  • Tap ‘Settings and privacy’.
  • Scroll down to ‘More info and support’.
  • Press ‘Help’.
  • Click ‘Report a problem’.

Make sure you include as much detail about the problem as possible in your report including the phone or tablet you were using, what you were doing when the problem occurred and a screenshot. There is also an option to go back to the page where you had the issue and shake your device to report it.
