Many great new shows have emerged and made waves in the new century so far, from Game of Thrones to Gangs of London.

However, some would argue that Sons of Anarchy is a bonafide favourite that few shows have measured up to. Well… except for perhaps Mayans MC.

This American crime-drama was created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, taking place in the same SOA universe and exploring the Sons’ rivals-turned-allies, the Mayans Motorcycle Club.

It began premiering in 2018 and season 3 commenced in March 2021, but some viewers are still left contemplating a season 2 bombshell: why did Taza kill Riz?

Riz’s murder was motivated by Taz’s desire to wage war against the Vatos Malditos. If one of their group was killed, he knew that it would incite retaliation from the Mayans MC.

Looking back over season 2, Riz was left hospitalised and members of the group were injured at the hands of the Vatos Malditos. While Riz was in hospital, Taza suggested they fight back.

However, the majority of the gang were against the decision to begin such a deadly feud, arguing that although there were injuries, none of them were killed.

Taza wanted blood and revenge, but knew that the others wouldn’t be compelled to fight back unless one of their own died as a result of the attack.

So, he took action and the plan worked. After Riz’s passing, the others were motivated to retaliate and take a stand.

Some time ago, Distractify highlights that Riz actor Antonio Jaramillo replied to a Mayans MC official tweet, signing off: “Thanks to all da fans of #SOA and #MayansMC4 da #love boom!!”

After still trying 2 process the fact that Taza killed Riz and not surprised at all that Dita was behind the hits, this was truly the best season of #MayansMC so far #MayansFX

Antonio Jaramillo on Mayans MC season 2

Speaking with Showbiz Junkies ahead of season 2, Antonio was asked who he hopes to share more time on screen with:

“I want to be with Mr. Olmos. I don’t know what dynamic because I’m one of the club members. I don’t know, but I would love to be with Mr. Olmos and explore that. I really want Michael Riz to be with Felipe Reyes, and also Coco. You know, Richard Cabral. I want me and him to have something, a disagreement, something.”

He added: “I know I had a disagreement with Clayton Cardenas – Angel – but we got it all worked out. But Mr. Olmos for sure.”

Additionally, he also explained that “I have a whole biography of my character and hope that we get seven seasons so that we can explore that more.” Clearly there were other plans in store!
