The Next Level Chef returns to FOX on Sunday, February 12th with a brand new season that showcases 18 contenders. Tineke Younger, a contestant, discovered her passion for cooking during her sophomore year of high school.

At just 21 years old, she is a social media and TikTok chef who will be competing for the grand prize of $250,000. Gordon Ramsey, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blais will serve as mentor chefs for Next Level Chef 2023. As per the show’s concept, each mentor will guide six competitors under their wing. Tineke is a member of Richard’s team.

Tineke recounts how she became interested in cooking.

Tineke Younger was born in Frederick, Maryland and currently lives in Evans, Georgia. Her first encounter with the culinary profession was in her sophomore year when she attended the Frederick County Public Schools Career and Technology Center. Tineke was facing terrible scores at the time and was looking for a passion to stay motivated. However, a visit to the center in search of a cosmetology school didn’t give her the motivation she needed until she smelled the food. In an interview with The Frederick News-Post, the young chef said: “I completely despise it. ‘This is not for me,’ I thought, and on my way out, I smelled food in the hallway.”

She inquired about the culinary program and then returned to her alma mater to pursue her newfound hobby. Tineke further elaborated: “Everything was different. I received Ds and Fs. I even got a D in Gymnastics. I didn’t put in any effort. School doesn’t matter to me. My grades improved after I discovered that I’m a skilled cook and that’s what I enjoy doing.” She went on to say: “Since I’m not the oldest, my behavior has also improved.

I got into trouble and was sent to the principal’s office. But my demeanor changed for the better when I found my passion.” In 2021, Tineke decided to update her TikTok profile while attending a cooking training course at Frederick Community College’s Monroe Center: Hospitality, Culinary & Tourism Institute and working at a restaurant. She expressed: “I thought it would be fun, so I recorded it and posted it on TikTok the next day. It has garnered 14 million views and I now have 300,000 followers. It went viral on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. It doesn’t really make sense. Celebrities have even reached out to me.”

One of her posts, in which she created a fried chicken sandwich, has received over 25 million views. When her follower count exceeded 27,000, the producers of FOX’s Next Level Chef contacted her. She quickly became a contestant and joined Richard Blais’ team.
