Iowa lawmakers are looking for public input on pending education legislation.

Iowa State Representatives Ken Croken and Monica Kurth and State Senator Cindy Winckler are hosting a community conversation forum on Saturday, February 3 at 10 a.m. in Room A at the Davenport Public Library’s Eastern Branch, 6000 Eastern Avenue. The forum will focus on proposed state legislation on education, including Governor Kim Reynolds’s plan for the state’s Area Education Assembly.

The bills in review in the General Assembly will “only further erode the quality of the once enviable Iowa public school system,” said Croken. Kurth, who is a member of the House Education Committee, is urging the public to give input to “stand up to the ongoing assault on education by the majority party.”

Senate Study Bill 3092 is one of the pieces of legislation that will be discussed. If the bill is signed into law, schools in the state would be able to hire chaplains to provide services to students at all school districts, charter schools and innovation zone schools.

The public is welcome to attend the forum and learn about current legislation and public policy for public schools in Iowa.
