A pickup truck crashed into the Davenport fire station at 35th and Harrison streets shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.
Two people were in the truck at the time of the accident and one was transported for medical treatment, police said.
“The vehicle left the roadway and collided with Davenport Station Number 3,” police said. A tow truck arrived to haul the truck away. Rubble spilled from the hole in the structure.
Initial investigation indicates that a Toyota Tundra was traveling south on Harrison Street. The vehicle abruptly left the roadway and struck the north wall of the fire station, a news release says.
The vehicle came to rest partially inside of the building striking Engine #3, which was parked inside the station.
The release says it is believed that the driver of the Tundra, a 31-year-old man, experienced a medical issue that caused him to lose control of the truck. The driver was transported by Medic EMS to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries unrelated to the crash.
The passenger of the Tundra was uninjured.
Davenport Fire personnel were inside the station at the time of the crash. No fire personnel were injured.
After the crash, Davenport Fire personnel immediately began providing emergency medical care to the occupants of the vehicle. Temporary repairs to Fire Station #3 are underway and the station is still in service.
This incident remains under investigation;.
