Skip and Loafer season 2 renewal status, plot and potential release date

Has Skip and Loafer been renewed for season 2, what will the plot be, and what date could the anime potentially release?
Between Tonikawa, My Life Story with Yamada-kun, The Dangers in My Heart, and Skip and Loafer, the 2023 Spring anime slate has been a battle of the romantic comedies.
The latter series, Skip and Loafer, has been arguably the most relaxing and heartwarming series of the bunch; however, the anime is set to release its season 1 finale later today, June 20, on Crunchyroll.
Whilst we are still waiting for official confirmation of Skip and Loafer season 2 going into early production, there remains plenty of content left from the original manga series left to cover – here is everything that fans need to know.
Skip and Loafer season 2 renewal status
As previously noted, the Skip and Loafer TV anime has not yet been publicly renewed for season 2 by Studio P.A. Works or Kodansha; however, the inner-city adventure should continue thanks to both the availability of source material and the success of the anime so far.
The season 1 episode 12 finale is expected to adapt up until around chapter 23 of the original manga series written by author Misaki Takamatsu. Chapter 23 marks the final chapter of manga Volume 4, published in Japan in August 2020.
The good news is that as of June 2023, more than 52 chapters of the Skip and Loafer manga have been published across eight Takobon volumes, and with the series still ongoing, this means that there is plenty of content left to be adapted in a potential second season.
The anime should also prove popular enough to merit a second season going into production. Ahead of the episode 12 finale, the series is scoring an impressive 8.25/10 on MyAnimeList, 8.2/10 on IMDB, 4.1/5 on Anime Planet, and 81% on Anilist.
Consequently, Studio P.A. Works will also be looking to continue the series as Skip and Loafer is currently their third highest-rated anime to date on MAL, only behind Shirobako (2014) and Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018).
Overall, it should only be a matter of time before Skip and Loafer season 2 is publicly announced to be in production, but what will the plot for the next broadcast be?
Skip and Loafer season 2 plot
As the Skip and Loafer anime is adapting an original manga, we do know the plot of season 2 despite the series not yet being renewed for a second broadcast.
Assuming that season 2 will maintain a similar pacing to that of season 1, fans can expect the subsequent four manga volumes to be adapted:

“As fall turns into winter, Mitsumi and her friends say goodbye to the first half of their freshman year. Meanwhile, Mitsumi’s friendship with Shima-kun takes on a new depth.”
The synopsis from Volume 6 reads: “It’s wintertime in Tokyo! Even as Mitsumi juggles Valentine’s Day infatuations and White Day revelations, the high-school life of this natural-born happiness influencer is hurtling headlong towards spring–and her second year in high school!”
Detailing the plots of volumes 7 and 8 would be delving too deep into spoiler territory, but fans can read about the manga for themselves via Seven Seas Entertainment, which is publishing the series in English.
Skip and Loafer season 2 potential release date
Whilst it is possible to make an early prediction on the Skip and Loafer season 2 release date, fans should note that it was over 17 months between season 1 being announced in November 2021 and the premiere in April 2023.
This is unusually long for a modern anime, especially when all of the adapted content was already published by the time of the announcement. However, this was likely due to the intense schedule for P.A. Works at the time, as opposed to an issue with the series’ production itself.
The good news is that P.A. Works only have one major title lined up for the rest of 2023, a movie called Komada: A Whisky Family which is set to release in November.
This means that barring any secret projects that have not been publicly announced, there is a strong possibility that P.A. Works will decide against temporarily shelving the anime in favor of starting another production, which had been the fear of many fans.
Overall, HITC predicts that Skip and Loafer season 2 will release in either January 2024 as part of the Winter slate or April 2024 as part of the Spring slate.
