Laughton was born on May 30th, 1994 in Oakville, which is located in the province of Ontario in Canada.

Career of Scott Laughton

Laughton spent his childhood in Oakville, Ontario, where he attended Holy Family Elementary School and Holy Trinity High School. At the same time, he served as captain of the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA team, which played in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).
During his time with the organization, he cited Jarome Iginla and Steven Stamkos as two players who served as his inspiration and role models. Laughton skated in two games with the St. Michael’s Buzzers of the Central Canada Hockey League during his final season with the Marlboros.

The Buzzers play in the same league as the Marlboros (CCHL). After playing in all 76 games with the Marlboros during the 2009–10 GTHL season, he finished with 55 goals and 40 assists.

Because of his success in youth hockey, Laughton was selected third overall by the Oshawa Generals in the 2010 OHL Selection Draft. This honor was bestowed upon him by the Generals.

During his first season with the Generals, Laughton skated in 63 games, recorded 12 goals and 11 assists, and helped the team qualify for the playoffs in the 2011 OHL season.

On December 28, 2010, Laughton was given the position of assistant captain for Team Ontario while they were participating in the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

During the postseason, Laughton contributed to the Generals’ loss to the Niagara IceDogs by scoring one goal and providing one assist over the course of 10 games.

After Laughton’s first season in the OHL, he was invited to play for Team Canada at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, where he went on to win the gold medal.

Laughton During The 2012 Top Prospects Game

Laughton made his way back to the Generals for his sophomore season during the 2011–12 campaign. He played in all 64 games for the Generals and finished with 21 goals and 32 assists.
His play earned him a roster slot on the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and a ranking of 40th amongst all North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s mid-season rankings for skaters.  His play earned him a roster spot on the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game roster.

On August 8, 2012, he signed an entry-level deal with the Flyers that would last for three years. However, he decided to play in the OHL for the 2012–13 season.

During the course of the season, he was only allowed to participate in 49 games because he was suspended twice.

 The incident that led to his first suspension occurred on October 24, and it occurred when he was playing for the Ottawa 67s. After serving a 10-game sentence, Laughton stated, “I don’t want to wander away from my game at all.” He added that he “wanted to finish every check,” which he believed he had done in his first game back after the suspension (which was on Sunday). On April 8, 2013, he received his second suspension for many games as a result of a hit that he delivered to Zach Hall, who was playing for the Barrie Colts. Despite this, Laughton finished the season with a career-high 56 points after playing in 49 games. This was his best point total ever.
