The sudden and tragic passing of Sara Marshall from Vancouver Island on April 2, 2022, has left the community in mourning. Her unexpected death, ruled as suicide, underscores the critical importance of mental health awareness and the pressing need for open conversations about mental well-being. The Marshall family, well-known for their unwavering support of mental health initiatives, consistently urged others to speak openly about their challenges. Sara’s untimely departure serves as a poignant reminder of the silent struggles individuals may be facing.

Sara leaves behind her son, Lochlan. A celebration of Sara’s life took place on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 6 pm at the Beban Auditorium in Nanaimo. The event provided an opportunity for friends, family, and the community to come together, share memories, and find solace in each other’s company during this difficult time.

In memory of Sara and as a testament to the family’s dedication to supporting Lochlan, a trust fund has been established. Instead of flowers, contributions can be made via e-transfer to or by sending cheques made out to Lochlan McCormick or Lisa Marshall.

The creation of a trust fund not only honors Sara’s memory but also offers a tangible way for the community to express support and solidarity with her family, especially young Lochlan. The Marshall family’s resilience and commitment to channeling grief into a fund for Lochlan exemplify strength and unity during a period of profound loss.
