The Facebook post of Five Star Salon owner in Davenport in generating a lot of attention.
That’s after 11th Street Precinct bar owner John Wisor apologized for being caught on police dash cam video yelling homophobic slurs.
Salon owner Jeffrey Porter has lived in the village of East Davenport for over 20 years.
He said he was surprised at the behavior Wisor displayed and felt the need to break his silence with this Facebook post once he heard Wisor’s apology.
“Having someone say something so offensive so openly, it just hit me in a place that has never been touched before so I just couldn’t be quiet any longer,” Porter said.
Porter says he thought Wisor seemed to be a respectful man until he showed his true colors.
“In the past 5 years when he doesn’t get his way which we’ve seen now publicly he tends to resort to bullying tactics,” said Porter.
“I think that it’s important that people that can say something, do say something because if we don’t then people like Mr. Wisor will continue to be able to be heard,” he said.
Porter said the the apology does not make up for the intense language is not enough.
“It’s a thinly veiled response it’s not an apology,” Porter said. “Hate doesn’t have a price, it’s not $5,000 it’s much much more than that,” he said. “It’s people living with shame and guilt all of their life, $5,000 means nothing to me,” he said.
“Having grown up different myself you get this message so often that there’s something wrong with you,” Porter said. “We know that there are young people struggling with being bullied and facing fears everyday so it’s no okay for people to have to live with that,” said Porter.
“We all know people that are apart of a community that may not be strong enough to speak for themselves,” he said.
“My message is one of inclusiveness and let’s not exclude those people, let’s include those people,” Porter said.
Porter said he was thankful for how police handled the situation.
