Pennsylvania teacher murder still unsolved

The case of a young teacher who was murdered a few steps away from home, more than 3 years later, still has no solution. A person interested in her murder has been convicted of another murder.

Rachael DelTondo was 33 years old when she was killed in 2018. Her murder remains unsolved to this day, but Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier said the investigation is ongoing.

Rachael DelTondo was shot multiple times in the foot of her parents’ driveway in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. She had just been brought in by a friend a few minutes earlier and there were no witnesses to witness the murder.

Frank Catropa is Rachael DelTondo’s ex-fiance. He was initially a person of interest, but District Attorney David Lozier confirmed he was not a suspect in her murder.

It was late at night and she was with high school student Sheldon Jeter Jr. Rachael told police they were friends and just talking, but police also said she told them she didn’t want her fiancé to know.

Sheldon Jeter Jr. was a member of the popular high school football program in Aliquippa. According to his attorney, he and Rachael DelTondo had a romantic relationship.

In May 2020, nearly two years since Rachael DelTondo was shot dead, a young man named Tyric Pugh was shot multiple times. Tyric lived in the same house as Sheldon Jeter and they considered each other like family.

Surveillance cameras captured Sheldon Jeter Jr. left home with Tyric Pugh, seen here at 11:10 pm. Then the cameras recorded Sheldon returning alone. Around the time Sheldon returned home alone, a driver discovered Tyric’s body and called 911.

A shocking arrest

Sheldon Jeter Jr. was arrested for the murder of Tyric Pugh just two days later and charged with criminal murder. He will appear in court in June 2021.

State Police found the gun and ammunition in the bedroom of Sheldon Jeter Jr. matched with a cartridge from the Tyric Pugh crime scene.

A Pennsylvania grand jury heard evidence in the Rachael DelTondo case and had information that Sheldon Jeter was a subject. District Attorney David Lozier told “48 Hours” that they will issue notice when they believe they can win a case beyond a reasonable doubt.
