Four people died and three were hospitalized in Albany, Tifton, and Americus. Three guys were shot and two murdered at Woodland Apartments in Albany on Thursday. Two males and one women were shot at Ferry Lake Rd and Bill St. in Tifton. One man died. The 400 block of Crawley Street in Americus saw a guy shot and murdered late Thursday night.

Albany apartment residents stated that they’re still on edge  After Thursday’s events. One mother claims the children were home and are still shaken. Another tells WALB she would have been caught in the crossfire if she arrived one minute later.

“I heard gunfire. Two low sounds followed by six loud ones. So, I waited a while and then I decided to go out there and see what was going on, and when I got out, I saw cops and a dead corpse,” Brenda Shannon, a neighbor near the shooting, said.

The residents in this community reported hearing over seven gunfire. After checking her car outside, Shannon saw a gunshot hole in the passenger side.

“When they moved the caution tape, I decided to go around there and look, and when I got there and noticed it, I went around and only saw this one,” said Shannon.

Thankfully, the infant was not inside during the gunfire, said the mother.

“That’s sad too. Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said it’s awful that people can’t go to the theaters without worrying about shootings or violence.

Fowler claims this is Dougherty County’s 17th homicide in 2023 and urges young Black males to resolve their disputes without guns.

That was unnecessary and pointless. Fowler said the public should unite and demand that the firearms be put down.

Albany Police Department officers found 21-year-olds Neahmad Alfred and Tyler Graham dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Kesha’ Walton, 19, was the third victim transferred to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with significant injuries.

Video surveillance helped officers identify suspects.

APD identified a shooting suspect on Friday. Jackson is needed for questioning about the shooting. Officials say he’s armed and dangerous.

“When I get a call saying its a homicide, 9 times out of 10, it’s a Black-on-Black shooting or something,” Fowler added. Shooting and killing is not the solution. You wrecked two families. One family has to go to a funeral and one family has to go to court and try to keep someone out of court and the other out of jail. It’s a sad day in Daughterty County, another Black life lost senselessly.

Neighbours who declined to speak on camera describe Thursday’s incident. One neighbor says a stray gunshot hit her baby’s bedroom, while another shows us her car’s bullet hole.

It’s sad and worrying. Shannon added that in today’s world, you can’t approach people to push them to do things a specific way because you never know whether they’ll pull a gun on you.

Shannon considered leaving the community but now encourages others to stay.

Trust God and stay the path. It’s everywhere now in Albany. Shannon stated more people need a relationship with God because things seem to be getting worse instead of better.

Since the suspect or suspects have not been caught, residents say they feel unsafe discussing their concerns on video.

Anyone with information about the shooting or Jackson’s whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS or APD at (229) 302-08011 or 302-0796.
