On Sunday, members of several Scott and Clinton county fire departments will conduct a live fire training at the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department as part of a Fire Service Training Bureau Fire Fight 1 class, according to a news release.

Fire Fighter 1 is a course all firefighters must complete to meet the minimum standards of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1001 – Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.

Participants will enter the Fire Service Training Bureau – Interior Fire Attack Simulator where they will experience propane- fueled fires controlled by an instructor, the release says.

Participants will then work through the simulator in small groups of usually three to four firefighters to identify and extinguish these fires. The simulator provides several different situations firefighters might encounter including basement fires, second-story fires, and kitchen fires, as well as obstacles to represent furniture or interior door ways.

This training is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. “and will continue until participants have all of the opportunities to experience this excellent and safe training prop,” the release says.
