CPR saves thousands of lives every year. Performing CPR immediately after a cardiac event can double or even triple the person’s chances of survival. Now a local group is making sure the public has this skill for free.
The Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition is offering free Hands-Only CPR training on February 15th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Scott County Administrative Building, 600 W. Fourth Street in Davenport.
The one-hour training will teach people how to perform Hands-Only CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Hands-Only CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breathing. It is recommended for people to use when they have seen a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting, such as at home, at work or in a park.
Cardiac arrest occurs when the entire heart stops beating and can happen anywhere to anyone at any time. “For everyone one-minute CPR is not performed on a person in cardiac arrest the chance of survival decreases by 10%,” says coalition board chair Christina McDonough.
Attendees should understand that this training does not lead to CPR or First Aid Certification. Click here for more information or to register. For more information on the Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition, click here.
