Authorities identified a 25-year-old woman found dead on a Marina del Rey yacht a week earlier as a homicide victim on Saturday.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Boglarka Halasi as the Dec. 7 death victim. The same day, authorities located 33-year-old Kelvin Nelson Jr., who resided on the yacht, in a neighboring vehicle and was found to have committed suicide.
Lt. Steven De Jong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said deputies from the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station were summoned to the 14000 block of Tahiti Way at 11:12 a.m. Dec. 7 to check a boat’s welfare and found Halasi’s death.
An acquaintance of the boat’s residents informed the LAPD to a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Via Marina, where Nelson’s body was recovered, the sheriff’s department claimed.
A few days later, the medical examiner ruled Nelson’s death a strangling suicide.
The sheriff’s department reported Thursday: “Local residents indicated the man lived aboard the boat under homicide investigation. The deceased female is under inquiry.”
The county medical examiner “has ruled the (woman’s) death a homicide,” the sheriff’s department announced Thursday.
Halasi died from strangulation, according to the medical examiner.
