Jay Hindley is an Australian professional road cyclist who made his debut for Team Sunweb at the 2018 Volta ao Algarve. He has participated in several cycling events such as the Vuelta a España and the Giro d’Italia.
In May 2019, Jai Hindley was named on the start list for the 2019 Giro d’Italia. He also started the 2020 season well, winning two stages and the general classification at the Herald Sun Tour in February.
During the Giro d’Italia 2020, Jai Hindley put in a strong performance and won the 18th stage, considered the “Queen Stage”. After the stage, he moved up to second overall and also took the lead in the young riders’ classification.
In the mountainous stage 20, he finished second behind Tao Geoghegan Hart, helping him to take the overall lead alongside Geoghegan Hart. However, he finished second in the final stage of the Giro, a 15.7 km time trial, in which Geoghegan finished 39 seconds slower than Hart. This meant that Hindley finished the Giro in second place overall.
He won Stage 5 of the Tour de France by 32 seconds on the 5th of July. Jai’s lead at the finish line put him in first place in the General Classification earning him the Yellow Jersey for the start of Stage 6.
