Ian MacKaye And His Wife Started The Their Own Band In 2018

When a couple plays together, they stay together! Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina met in the early 1990s and have been married ever since. They currently reside in Washington, DC with their son, Carmine. MacKaye and Farina are both musicians, being members of the same band called Coriky. MacKaye formed the band in 2018 with his wife and Joe Lally, an old friend of Fugazi in the band. MacKaye is the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist. Farina plays the drums, while Lally plays the bass. MacKaye, Farina and Lally had no names for their bands when they played their first live show. The singer said that all the band names were chosen. Furthermore, since such bands have lawyers, they cannot keep such names. The three band members then reflect on their past. They were and still are members of a prominent rock band that originated in DC punk. So in the end, they decided they could name themselves whatever they wanted.

They chose the name Coriky and didn’t know what it meant. The moniker remained, though, and the band’s first album of the same name was released on March 27, 2020. It was recorded by Don Zientara and published by Dischord Records. MacKaye and Farina were members of many bands, including Coriky. They are members of The Evens, where MacKaye plays baritone guitar and his wife plays drums. Farina also sings with her husband on many songs.

Farina went to Washington, DC in the early 1990s to attend art school. However, she was already a member of a band called Mr. Candy Eaters. MacKaye is a famous singer and guitarist who has worked with Fugazi. Then, in 1992, Farina and MacKaye met when Mr. Candy Eater opens the door for Fugazi. On June 26, 2013, MacKaye told Canh about the first time he met his wife. “I talked to her and felt she was a great vocalist,” he recounts.

He recalls her starting to play with Lois Maffeo, which made an impression on him. So he promised to record some songs for them, and Farina teamed up with MacKaye’s brother to form a band. They quickly become great friends, and their friendship gradually develops into a sexual relationship. MacKaye says it’s hard for him to be normal to people about music. Farina, on the other hand, is different, and he can connect with her correctly. As a result, during Fugazi’s sabbatical in the late 1990s, the two founded The Evens.

MacKaye and his wife have a child named Carmine, born in 2008. On December 2, 2012, Farina spoke to NPR about raising a child in a musical family. She added that she was unable to have a sincere conversation with their young son. Furthermore, because she and MacKaye are in the same band, they struggle to find time for their children. “Neither of us can stay with the kid while the other is rehearsing or something,” Farina said. Despite the fact that it was difficult, the drummer said that the couple was lucky. This is because their boy is not a fussy child and is “really easy to do things”. Likewise, they have loved ones who can look for Carmine when they can’t.
