GroupWatch is similar to Amazon’s “Watch Party” feature. You can invite anyone who has a Disney+ subscription (up to seven people total) to watch a movie or TV show in real-time with you. When someone pauses the video, it’s paused for everyone. The stream remains synced up for the entire group.

This feature works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Roku, Chromecast, and any other place you can watch Disney+. It’s easy to get started and watch something together without actually being together.

First, open Disney+ on your device and find something to watch. On the title screen, select the GroupWatch icon.

The next step is to add people to your group. Select the “+” icon next to your profile photo.

You’ll now have the opportunity to copy a link to send to your friends and family. If you’re on a device with a built-in sharing menu, like an iPhone or Android device, you’ll be able to share the link directly to another app.

As people open the link and join the stream, you will see their avatar appear. Select “Start Stream” to begin the movie or TV show.

Once the stream has started, anyone can control it. That includes play/pause, fast forward, rewind, and seek. The changes are displayed on the screen.

The other part of GroupWatch is Reactions. These are emoji for different reactions that will pop up on the screen while you’re watching. It’s a way to communicate your feelings with the group without being too distracting.

In the web browser, it’s as simple as hovering over the emoji icon and clicking a Reaction. On mobile devices, the Reactions can be slid out from the right side of the screen.

When you’re using GroupWatch on your TV, either by casting, using a set-top box, or smart TV, your mobile device becomes a “remote” for Reactions.

That’s pretty much it. If you want to actually chat with your group, you’ll need to use a separate app or text them.

Ok, now that you know what it is, let’s break down exactly how to do Disney Plus Group Watch with family and friends all over the world.

Step 1: Send an invite to a GroupWatch party.

You can find this icon located on the Details page for a movie or television series on Disney+.

Important Note : The invite can only be sent from the internet.

But you can view GroupWatch family and friends sessions from any smart TV screen or device that’s connected to Disney+.

Step 2: Your friends and family receive your Disney Plus GroupWatch invitation link.

At the moment, you can share your GroupWatch party experience with up to 6 (six) people at a time.

If you ask me, that’s just about the perfect size for a great at-home movie night!

Once everyone is ready, click on START STREAM, and you’re ready to go.

Step 3: Enjoy the show on Disney Plus GroupWatch!

While you’re watching your favorite Disney classic or a new release, you and every other person in your party has the ability to control the action:

• pause
• fast-forward
• rewind

With social distancing measures likely in place for the foreseeable future, media companies have jumped on the opportunity to help you and your loved ones enjoy your favorite entertainment even when you can’t be in the same place.

DisneyPlus is no exception — their GroupWatch feature allows account holders to watch the same movie or TV show across multiple accounts at once, across devices. And GroupWatch will make sure every stream is synced to the exact same second, so no one is left behind.

Here’s how to invite friends and family to a Disney Plus GroupWatch.

How to invite people to a Disney Plus GroupWatch

1. Log into the DisneyPlus website or app with your username and password.

2. Select the film, show, or short you want to watch. You can select a show from Disney Plus’ homepage, or search for one.

3. On the title’s detail page, click the GroupWatch icon.

4. Click the “+” button on the GroupWatch page to get a link to the session.

5. Copy the link.

Now that you have the link to your GroupWatch, you’ll have to share it with the people that you want to invite. Just remember that anyone you share it with needs to have a Disney Plus account — up to seven people (including yourself) can join a single GroupWatch, and up to four people can join from a single Disney Plus account that’s logged in on different devices.

There are a few different ways to share a GroupWatch link, but all them boil down to one basic concept: Just send people a message with the link pasted into it.

How to share your GroupWatch invitation link

• Email. You can also share the link via email. If you’re using the mobile app, you can select your email app from the list of sharing options presented to you. If you’re using a computer, you’ll need to log into your email website and send an email from there with the link.
• Text message. If you’re using your smartphone, you can easily paste the link into a text message and send it that way. No matter whether you an iPhone or Android, the sharing options should include your default texting app, as well as other group chat apps like Signal or WhatsApp.
• Social media. On a computer, sending the invitation link through your social media account like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is as simple as going to the site, logging into your account, and pasting the invitation URL into a private or direct message. On your phone, select which app you want to share the link with from the sharing options menu.
• Other sharing options. The invitation link can also be shared through any app or service that allows you to share text with someone. This includes less conventional options, like Slack, Google Docs, AirDrop, and more.

Once invitations have been sent, your guests will need to accept the invite by clicking on the link and logging into their Disney Plus account. Once they’ve joined, you can start the stream. Everyone will be synced up with everyone else.

You can now watch Disney+ with up to seven other people.

Watching Disney+ with your family at home is pretty easy. All you need is a subscription, and something to watch it on. Disney+ is available on laptops, phones, and smartTV devices like Roku and Amazon Fire. But, what if you want to watch Disney+ stuff right alongside family and friends who are far away? How does Disney+ GroupWatch work? Is it difficult?

Nope! Just like Netflix has a party feature, Disney+ just introduced GroupWatch. Here’s a step-by-step approach for getting GroupWatch to work on Disney+.

Step 1: Select the show or movie you want to watch

On the Disney+ homepage, you won’t see a “GroupWatch” feature. You’ll only get the GroupWatch feature if you click on a specific series or movie you want to watch. So, do that first. (In this example, we’ll be watching Tron, the greatest Jeff Bridges film of all time, if you don’t count Starman or The Big Lebowski. Greetings program!)

Step 2: Once you’ve picked what you want to watch, click on the GroupWatch icon

If you know what you want to watch with other people (remotely) you’ll see an icon with three little people on it. That’s the GropuWatch button. It looks like this.

Step 3: Create the Watch Party

From that screen, you’ll get a screen that gives you a big plus sign. You want to click on that to generate the URL, so you can invite other people to the Watch Party.

Step 4: Copy the party link and start the party!

After you click that plus sign (+) you’re in good shape. You should see a link generated that creates the party. It looks like this:

That’s it you’re done! Now you can watch The Mandalorian or Escape From Witch Mountain with your cousin or grandparent who lives 200 hundred miles away!

Stream Disney, Star Wars and Marvel movies with your friends and family remotely over the holidays.

Disney Plus is rolling out a GroupWatch feature, so you can watch shows at the same time as your friends, wherever you are.

Disney Plus’ GroupWatch feature allows subscribers to watch all shows and movies on the streaming service simultaneously with friends and family from afar, within the US. Up to seven people can sync their screens to watch together across web, mobile, connected TVs and smart TVs, and share emoji reactions in real time as they watch everything from classic Disney movies to season 2 of The Mandalorian (check out all of the best movies to watch on Disney Plus here ).

GroupWatch is Disney Plus’ version of Netflix Party and Amazon Prime Video Watch Party , which gained popularity during coronavirus quarantines. Unlike those offerings, GroupWatch works natively across any device, with no extension or app necessary. However, it currently lacks a chat feature — instead, viewers can send emoji reactions to the group screen from the Disney Plus app. But you can still text or video chat with your friends as you watch along together. And a chat option may arrive in the future, said Jerrell B. Jimerson, senior vice president of product management for Disney Plus.

How to set up Disney Plus GroupWatch

Here’s how to use Disney Plus GroupWatch to watch all the Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic content you want at the same time as your friends and family, wherever you live. (One note: If the user has a Kids Profile, they won’t be able to start or join a GroupWatch from that profile.)

Anyone else miss movie nights with friends? Just me? Nah, I know you do too. My friends and I used to all pile into one person’s apartment and split bottles (and bottles) of wine and stream our fave movies for the 693rd time. Then the pandemic happened, and the same activities that gave us refuge from our busy lives and breakups and whatnot became sources of danger and anxiety. The good news is that there are several easy ways you can simulate watching a movie together. while apart.

The most popular option is probably Netflix Party, which recently changed its name to “Teleparty,” and then there are a few other streaming services and third-party websites—all of which make streaming a movie together remotely a breeze. Yep, it’s the exact same thing as Netflix Party but without the Netflix branding. (Yeah, I don’t get what they’re up to, either.) It synchronizes the video (important so you all stay at the same pace—NO SPOILERS!) and the best part is you don’t have to stream Netflix content only. Amazon Watch Party

You can add up to 100 (one! hundred!) people to stream content using Amazon Watch Party. Do you even actually *like* 100 people? Yeah, me neither. Either way, it’s a good option, especially if you’re in a sorority or a marching band or have a super large extended family, etc. To access Watch Party, you have to join Amazon Prime Video, which costs $8.99/month. If you have an Amazon Prime membership, then you already have access to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Watch Party. WATCH NOW

Scener

Scener, which bills itself as a “virtual movie theater,” is probably the most flexible option on this list. It allows you to use any streaming service you want to co-watch. You can have a watch party with up to a million guests, which is, um, obviously probably a few more than you really need, and you can say hello to your pals via your webcam and everyone’s video will play in sync. By the way, Scener is FREE! (Though sometimes hosts require you to pay for a ticket or you might have to shell out for a specific movie rental.) WATCH NOW

Hulu Watch Party

Hulu couldn’t miss out on all the fun, duh. The Disney-owned service has its own version of a watch party, allowing subscribers to stream video playback with a group chat. It’s online-only, but you can always cast it to your TV to make the experience feel more movie theater-like. Depending on your Hulu plan, you could pay anywhere from $5.99/month to $64.99/month for this. WATCH NOW

TwoSeven

TwoSeven was created by a long-distance couple who clearly get what it feels like to be separated from your ride-or-dies. TwoSeven brings you together (virtually) and is accessible through a variety of services, including HBO Max and AppleTV+. Through the live video option, you can also see your boo’s face as they react to the movie, which is a delightful lil feature. TwoSeven asks for payment through Patreon, and depending on the features you want to splurge on, subscriptions range from $3/month to $20/month. WATCH NOW

Metastream

Okay, sometimes you just don’t have the time—or mental energy—for a full-length film. If you and your crew just want to stream YouTube videos for an hour, then you should try Metastream (which is free unless you choose to help support through a donation). Watch2Gether

This one’s for my super organized friends (fellow Virgos, wya?). Watch2Gether lets you organize your videos into playlists. It’s like Pinterest for streaming. Mmhm, just the thought of it gives me so much peace. This service is free, or you can pay $3.49/month for premium. WATCH NOW

Groupwatch

Disney+ is not about to get left out of the virtual streaming experience. They obvs created their own version that lets you watch any title on Disney+ with your friends and family while using the app. Um, that means DCOMs too!! Groupwatch is included in your Disney+ subscription for $6.99/month or $69.99/year. WATCH NOW

You can really pick whichever website/plugin works best for your sitch. I suggest testing a few and then choosing the option that truly makes you feel like your bestie, S/O, mom (or all three!) are sprawled out on the couch right next to you.

Thanks to the GroupWatch function for Disney Plus, we will be able to watch the streaming platform’s documentaries, series and movies with six other friends.
In recent months, different extensions or applications have been increasing and that have allowed users to view, together with their friends and family.

During the pandemic, the options that allow us to watch movies or series with other people remotely have become popular, but most of these streaming offers do not have the option incorporated natively, which forces us to install applications or extensions.

Well, Disney Plus is currently testing a feature that will allow us to meet up with up to six friends remotely to view all their movies, documentaries and series. It might be available to everyone before the cold winter months arrive.

Disney Plus has confirmed that some users in Canada are already testing the function called GroupWatch. It seems that this GroupWatch function can be accessed through an icon on the title page of a show or movie. We are still not sure if the entire catalog will be compatible or is it just some movies or series in particular.

Disney Plus has confirmed that it is a function that is currently being tested in Canada but the company intends to implement this function to other markets as well. The only requirement to use GroupWatch together is that all participants should have an active Disney Plus subscription.

This is especially useful, because it would allow us to chat with our friends at the same time as we watch a content, from the comfort of our home and without disturbing anyone like it happens in a movie theater. We are still not sure when this feature will arrive in Europe and US, although since it will not be too difficult to implement, it is likely to be available next months.
