When you’re creating Word documents, you have two page layout options available—landscape or portrait. Portrait mode is the default option, but if you want your text sideways, you can switch to landscape mode instead.

If you want to use both types of layouts in Word, you’ll need to use a few workarounds using section breaks and Word’s own page formatting options to do so. Here’s how.

Making the Whole Page Landscape

If you have a single page containing text or images that you’re looking to switch to landscape mode, then you’ll need to insert a section break, then change the page formatting options to allow you to use landscape mode on a single page.

To start, find the page that you want to change to landscape view, then place the blinking cursor at the very start of the page. Click on the Layout menu in the ribbon bar, select Breaks, then press Next Page in the Section Breaks section.

This will insert a section break and push your text onto a new page.

While you’re in the Layout menu, click on Orientation > Landscape. This will switch the current page and all following pages to landscape mode.

You’ll now need to turn the remaining pages back to portrait mode. Scroll down to the next page, then click at the very start of the page to place the blinking cursor.

We’ll follow a similar process as before to switch these pages to portrait mode—in the Layout menu, click Breaks, then press Next Page to insert a section break.

Click on Orientation > Portrait to switch the page to portrait mode.

You should now have one single landscape page, with all other pages remaining in portrait mode.

Making Specific Text Landscape

If you don’t want all of the text on your page to appear on the landscape page, you can choose to make a landscape page that only contains specific text.

To do this, start by highlighting the text that you want to appear on the landscape page.

In the Layout menu, click on Margins, then select the Custom Margins… option at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

In the Page Setup window, click on the Landscape option in the Margins tab, under the Orientation section.

In the Apply to box, choose Selected Text.

Click OK to confirm the settings you’ve selected.

You should now have a landscape page that just contains the text you previously highlited, creating a section break that uses a different page layout to the rest of your Word document.

You can use this method to turn an entire page landscape—to do this, select all of the text on the page before you start and repeat the steps above to complete the change.

Formatting Microsoft Word Documents

Now that you know how to make a single page landscape in Word, you can start creating documents with as many combinations of landscape and portrait pages as you want. This is where learning how to rearrange pages in Word might just come in handy.

Why don’t you pad the left and right sides of the image with black/white pixels until you get the aspect ratio that you want? You probably should be “normalizing” the size and aspect ratio of all of your images to a specific display size, anyway.

You don’t mention how you display images or why an image would mess with your UI or what you mean by clip an image to appear landscape.

If the image to be “clipped” isn’t wide enough to be “landscaped” and fit however you display it in your UI then it would look odd anyhow wouldn’t it?

And if the image was stretched it would look odd obviously.

Also “clipping” could clip out what you want to see.

Perhaps you could explain in some detail a bit more about how your UI is affected, how you display images, etc.

In this course:

PowerPoint slides are automatically set up in landscape (horizontal) layout , but you can change the slide orientation to portrait (vertical) layout .

Select the Design tab:

Near the right end, select Slide Size, and then click Custom Slide Size.

In the Slide Size dialog box, select Portrait, then select OK.

In the next dialog box, you can select Maximize to take full advantage of the space available, or you can select Ensure Fit to make sure that your content fits on the vertical page.

On the Design tab, in the Page Setup group, click Slide Orientation.

Maximize: Select this option to increase the size of your slide content when you are scaling to a larger slide size. Choosing this option could result in your content not fitting on the slide.

Ensure Fit: Select this option to decrease the size of your content when scaling to a smaller slide size. This could make your content appear smaller, but you’ll be able to see all content on your slide.

When trying to print a photo that is in landscape but to be less than borderless fill, the options provided in iPhoto for printing will put a smaller image of the landscape photo on the portrait positioned blank. I can not find anyway to turn the photo around so it is landscape on landscape paper.

What system and exact iPhoto version are you using? What paper size and image size have you selected? Have you cropped the image?

I had to create a custom paper size of 11 x 14 as none of my printers support that size. I created the customs size with 2″ borders on all sizes. I was in Preview when creating the custom size with the 2″ borders.

The following is what I get when printing a 4:3 image to that paper size:

You can try creating a custom paper size with 2″ border and see if you can use it with iPhoto. Otherwise try exporting the photo out of iPhoto and use Preview to print.

Old Toad, thanks. I accidentally hit the “this solved my question” I did not intend to do so. I wanted to reply to your questions.

My iPhoto is version 9.5.1 on my 15″ MacBookPro with Retina Display and 512 flash memory. I live in an old folks home and we have a photo club. I was trying to print out a 4:3 landscape photo oriented landscape on 11′ x 14″ paper with about a two inch white margin around all four sides of the picture on the fancy Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer available for our club use in this institution. In the options for photo size in iPhoto, the fit and fill options do present landscape on landscape, but all other size options are smaller landscape photo on portrait oriented paper! I have by accident at times found a way to get what I want by using the custom option and changing photo size dimensions, but it is not intuitive and often I can not replicate the steps needed. I really think iPhoto should include a simple command somewhere to allow one to turn the desired photo from one orientation to the other (landscape and portrait) on the different paper options offered, all of which are shown as portrait only! You can try creating a custom paper size with 2″ border and see if you can use it with iPhoto. Otherwise try exporting the photo out of iPhoto and use Preview to print.

• Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow – rotates to landscape mode.
• Ctrl + Alt + Down arrow – rotates the screen upside down.
• Ctrl + Alt + Right arrow – rotates the screen 90 degrees (right).
• Ctrl + Alt + Left arrow – rotates the screen 90 degrees (left).

To return to the normal orientation, use the Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow keyboard shortcut.

How to rotate screen using graphics control panel

Whether you use a graphics card from Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD, each vendor offers a control panel software to control various aspects of the video settings, including an option to rotate the screen.

To rotate the screen using the NVIDIA Control Panel, use these steps:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click on Hardware and Sound.
3. Click on NVIDIA Control Panel.
4. Under the “Display” section, click on Rotate display.
5. Select the display (if applicable).

Choose the orientation (or use the controls on the right).

How to rotate screen disabling rotation lock on Windows 10

If you’re using a tablet or 2-in-1 device, and rotating the device doesn’t rotate the screen, you may need to change the system settings.

To disable rotation lock on Windows 10, use these steps:

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on System.
3. Click on Display.

Under the “Scale and layout” section, turn off the Rotation lock option.

Quick tip: This option is only available on supported devices.

Alternatively, you can also enable or disable the feature from the Quick action settings on Action center (Windows key + A keyboard shortcut), and clicking the Rotation lock button.

I’ve no idea about what other software you’d prefer to use to do this, but I’d use the Image > Canvas Size option in photoshop – no need to use content aware fills etc
Just enter a width value that’s 1.5x the image height value and PS will add the extra canvas – in the colour of your choice – via the option also available.

Steps To Convert Video To Landscape From Portrait (Vice Versa)

First of all, transfer the video you recorded with your camera/phone to your system

Open the video using the VLC player >>> Click “Tools” >>> Click “Effects and Filters”

In the “Adjustments and Effects” area, click “Video Effects” >>> Click “Geometry”

In this area, tick the “Transform” box >>> on the drop-down menu that follows, choose “Flip vertical”

You can also tick the “Rotate” box and rotate the video to give you the perfect angle >>> Click the “OK” button when you are done.

Adobe Acrobat’s toolset includes the ability to combine PDFs, bitmapped images and other document resources into files that contain pages of mixed sizes and orientations. If you need to convert PDF pages from one orientation — portrait or landscape — to the other, Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro include temporary and permanent options for altering the setup of all or part of your document. Additionally, within Acrobat’s ability to manipulate online and 3D document resources, you can view Web pages, models and images in varying orientations as well. Although it’s no longer called “Acrobat,” the free Adobe Reader offers a limited subset of these options.

In Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro

Open the View menu in Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Locate the Rotate View submenu and choose either “Clockwise” or “Counterclockwise” to rotate the page view in 90-degree increments. This reorients pages from portrait to landscape, or vice versa. Although you can’t save this conversion with your document, this can ease the task of reading a file that opens in the wrong orientation.

Change page orientation at printing time to produce output that converts pages without altering your PDF file itself. Open the File menu, select “Print” and locate the Page Handling options. Uncheck “Auto-Rotate and Center” and click on the Page Setup button. Change page orientations and click on the “OK” button to print your document.

Rotate a 3D model that appears in a PDF, CAD or modeling-program file. Click on the model with the Hand tool to activate it so you can access Acrobat’s 3D tools. Use the Rotate tool in the 3D toolbar to reorient an object from portrait to landscape or vice versa. If using Adobe Acrobat, when you turn on “Enable 3D Selection For The Hand Tool” in Acrobat’s 3D preferences, you also can use the Hand tool to convert your view.

In Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro Only

Open the Tools menu, locate its Pages submenu and choose “Rotate” to open the Rotate Pages dialog box. Open the Direction drop-down menu and set the angle and degree of rotation to 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, or 180 degrees. Use the Page Range radio buttons to choose all pages or a range of pages. If you select a range, enter a starting and ending page number in the Pages entry fields. Use the Rotate drop-down menu to select even, odd, or even and odd pages. Click “OK” to convert the orientation of your selected pages. Press “Ctrl-Z” to undo your page rotation if you choose the wrong pages, direction or amount.

Change the orientation of online pages that you view in a Web browser and convert to PDF with the Adobe Acrobat plug-in. Open the “Web Page Conversion Settings” dialog box in your browser and click the “Page Layout” tab. Use the “Switch to Landscape If Scaled Smaller Than” percentage field to specify how small you must scale a portrait-mode page before the plug-in converts it to landscape. Activate the “Scale Wide Contents to Fit Page” option to convert page contents to page width.

Crop pages so they become wide or tall, changing their page orientation when you eliminate part of the page area. Open the Tools menu, locate its Pages submenu and choose “Crop.” To reduce page dimensions by eliminating margins, activate the “Remove White Margins” check box. To specify new dimensions for your pages, enter the amount of the original page size you want to remove from the top, bottom, left and right of the document, and specify which pages you want to crop. You can select all, define a starting and ending page number, or restrict the operation to even-, odd-, or even- and odd-numbered pages.
