How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

If you have a newer garage door opener from Chamberlain (or its professional brand LiftMaster), it’s likely that it comes with MyQ. Here’s how to set it up so that you can open and close your garage door remotely using your smartphone.

What Is MyQ?

MyQ is the name of Chamberlain’s wireless technology that allows homeowners to operate their garage door using their smartphones. It’s very similar to Garageio, GoControl, and others, but the technology is built right into Chamberlain’s newer garage door openers, meaning that there’s no need to spend more money on an external controller.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

However, some MyQ garage door openers don’t have Wi-Fi built in, while others do. If yours fits in the former category, you’ll need a MyQ Internet Gateway. It should come with your opener when you buy it, but if not, it’s around $50. It simply acts as a middleman between the opener and your router, while MyQ openers with Wi-Fi built in will communicate with your router directly.

If you don’t have a Chamberlain garage door opener, but want to have the ability to control your garage door remotely, you can buy a MyQ kit that will work with most third-party garage door openers. However, your garage door must have safety sensors and the correct programming buttons on the opener unit.

This tutorial will go over how to set up a Chamberlain garage door opener that already has MyQ built in but no Wi-Fi, which means we’ll be setting up the MyQ Internet Gateway as well.

Step One: Connect the MyQ Internet Gateway

The MyQ Internet Gateway will need to connect to your router via ethernet, so make sure that there’s a spare ethernet port on your router that you can use. It will also need to be plugged into power, so make sure that you also have an open outlet nearby that you can plug the gateway into.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Before you go to plug it in and shove it away behind your desk, be sure to jot down the serial number on the back of the unit, since you’ll need it later during the in-app setup process.

To connect the gateway, simply plug it into power and then plug the included ethernet cable into the gateway and the other end into a spare ethernet port on your router (any of the ports labeled 1-4 will work). The green and blue LED lights on the gateway will blink for a few moments and then the green LED will stay solid when it connects to the internet.

Step Two: Create a MyQ Account & Download the App

The first thing you’ll need to do before going any further is creating a MyQ account on Chamberlain’s website. Start by clicking on “Sign Up” in the top-right corner of the screen.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Enter in details like your name, email address, country, and more. Agree to the terms and then hit “Next”.

Next, you’ll need to confirm your email address, so check your inbox and click on the activation link inside of the email.

After clicking on the link in the email, you’ll be taken back to the website where you can log in to your newly-created account.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

From there, you’re done with the web interface, and you’re ready to set up your MyQ garage door opener from the MyQ app.

Step Three: Connect Your MyQ Garage Door Opener to Your MyQ Account

Next, download the MyQ app (available for iOS and Android), or—if you have a LIftMaster garage door opener—download the separate LiftMaster MyQ app (also for iOS and Android). We’re using the LiftMaster app in this tutorial, but both should follow similar instructions.

Once you have the app downloaded and you’re logged in, start by tapping on the big plus icon on the screen to add a device.

Next, tap on “Add New Place”.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Enter in the serial number of your MyQ Internet Gateway that you wrote down from the first step, and then hit “Submit” the top-right corner of the screen.

On the next screen, enter in a name for your house. Something simple like “Home” will do just fine, but feel free to be as creative as you want. Hit “Save” in the top-right corner when you’re done.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Select the device that you’re setting up. In this case, you’ll want to choose “Garage Door Opener”.

Next, go up to your garage door opener unit and locate the learn button. It will likely be a yellow or purple button.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Tap on “Next” in the app when you’ve located the button.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

After that, press and release the learn button. In a few seconds, the light on your opener should blink. If not, wait a little longer and press the learn button again until the light blinks.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

When successful, the app will automatically move onto the next screen where you’ll name your garage door opener. Hit “Save” in the top-right corner when you’re done.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

You’ll then be taken back to the main screen where your garage door will appear. From there, you can tap on the garage door illustration to open your garage door remotely, as well as close it.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Keep in mind that when you go to close your garage door remotely, your garage door opener will emit a beeping noise for about 10-15 seconds before closing the garage door. This is so that anyone in the way of the garage door has time to move, as well as generally warning anyone who’s in the garage that the garage door is closing.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

With any smart device, you can control your LiftMaster premium garage door opener by using the myQ App. In our latest video, Brent, our service manager, walks you through the process of setting up the app on your smartphone. Keep your home secure with features that easily give you the ability to track activity, allow access, and set schedules.

See the video transcription with step-by-step instructions below:

Hello everybody – I’m Brent with Absolute Overhead Doors of Elizabethtown and Louisville, Kentucky. I’m at a customer’s home here in Radcliff, Kentucky where today we upgraded them to our Elite Series LiftMaster 8550W Wi-Fi capable operator and we’re going to walk you through hooking that up on your phone.

All of your internet-capable operators come with a manual that will give you step-by-step instructions. This one here, on the front page, will direct you to the myQ App you need to download on your smartphone.

Once you’ve downloaded that app and created an account, the steps are really pretty simple to get you set up to where you can operate your opener from pretty much anywhere with internet capabilities.

I already have a myQ App set up on my iPhone, so once you have the app set up, you can go to devices and it’ll say add device. It will prompt you to add a device on the first screen there. So I’m going to click on add device.

It’s going to list all the myQ devices you are able to set up on your smartphone. The one right on the top is the garage door opener. It’s the one you want to click on and it tells you before you get started to make sure that you have access to Wi-Fi in your home and that you have your Wi-Fi password handy.

So once you have your internet password handy it’s going to prompt you to hit “next” on the screen … so I hit next. Here it’s going to show you four different wall stations that would come with your garage door operators and it’s going to ask you to select the one that looks like yours. So click on whichever wall station looks compatible with yours and it’s going to prompt you to the screen to enter you into the programming mode so we’re going to go over to the wall station and follow the instructions on your phone.

On this one here it says to tap the menu button. You’re going to have to scroll down to the program function and hit the arrow key and then scroll down to the Wi-Fi setup and hit the arrow key to the right. Your operator clicked so it has now entered programming mode.

So hit “next” on your phone screen and it’s going to prompt you, it says, “You should have heard a beep from the ceiling-mounted garage door opener, hit next.” Now it’s asking you to leave the myQ App and go to the Wi-Fi settings on your phone. You’re going to have to select the network that begins with MyQ-XXX in those settings on your phone.

Alright, so once you’ve located myQ under Wi-Fi in the settings on your phone, click on the myQ network and then you’re going to get prompted from my Q app. Says you’ve successfully connected to your myQ device – tap here to return to myQ. Now, it’s going to come up with the Wi-Fi networks for your home.

Most homes today have both 2G and 5G. You’re going to want to make sure that you click on the 2G for your home and then you’re going to have to enter in your home password. Right now it’s trying to connect with the device. It says to stay close to the device, it may take a minute and you will hear a series of beeps.

We just heard this series of beeps so it says to stay close to your device and now it’s going to ask me to name that device. I’m going to put the “garage door opener home.” Done.

Hit “next” and you have successfully completed setting it up on your phone. So once you’ve done that now the screen on your phone is going to look like this and anytime you want to open or close your door or see how long it’s been left open or closed all you have to do is look at this screen you can prompt it to OPEN or CLOSE just by hitting the blue button in the middle.

Right now the alarm is going off to let anyone nearby know that it’s been prompted to shut from a remote device.

So thanks for watching today. If you are interested in a Wi-Fi opener for your home, feel free to call us. We’d be happy to give you any information or give you pricing on setting this up in your home.

1. What is myQ Technology?

myQ is Merlin’s Internet Activation and Monitoring Protocol for garage door systems. With this technology, a smartphone or tablet can be used to monitor and control your garage door opener from anywhere in the world.

2. Can I connect a myQ opener directly to my phone or computer?

No. You must use a myQ Gateway connected to a home router. The router must have a continuously active internet connection (also known as broadband internet). A dial-up connection is not acceptable.

3. What are the necessary items required to establish a residential myQ system?

The Merlin myQ Connectivity Bundle includes:

  • The myQ Gateway Kit with power pack and cables.
  • The Protector System (Safety IR Beams).

The homeowner requires:

  • A home router with continuous Ethernet connection port.
  • Smart device to activate the opener.

4. Can any other device be controlled with the myQ Gateway?

Only myQ branded devices such as garage door openers and the myQ Remote LED Light specifically with myQ technology can be controlled with the myQ Gateway.

5. How do I connect to the internet?

Download the myQ app from your smart device’s App store. Go to Apple App Store or Google Play; Android – go to the Android Market.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

The ability to open and close your garage door from anywhere in the world is certainly an amazing feature of MyQ™ controlled garage door openers. Perhaps it was that cool new feature that first attracted us to the technology. But did you know about these other emerging capabilities for security, peace of mind and possibly “just because I can” convenience?

The latest MyQ functions are truly adding up faster than you can say “Hey, Siri, close the garage door.”

If you aren’t familiar with MyQ openers by Raynor, we’re speaking primarily of garage door openers that are WiFi controlled using the MyQ app. You can download the MyQ app for free and pair it with your Raynor MyQ-enabled openers. Once it is activated on your smartphone or tablet, you can begin controlling the door and monitoring a number of other functions within the app. Voice control is also possible with compatible smart home devices such as Apple HomeKit and Google Home.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Bringing all of this together for garage doors, MyQ leads the way in this technology. Here are a few highlighted features we love:

Cool Feature 1. Video monitoring of your garage.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Our newest MyQ enabled opener, the Sentinel™, is equipped with a video camera that has similar capabilities to that of doorbell cameras that are so popular today. The Sentinel’s camera lets you stay connected to what’s happening in your garage when you aren’t there.

Using the app, you can see who is coming and going whenever the door is opened and closed. Recording begins when motion is detected, even at night thanks to built-in night vision. This opener is also equipped with 2-way audio for real-time communication.

All Raynor openers with MyQ connectivity can also be upgraded to include video capabilities with a smart garage camera.

Cool Feature 2. Extra Lighting Control.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Bright new LED illumination modules are now available from Raynor for separate mounting anywhere in your garage and controlled through your garage door opener. In addition to providing extra visibility in those dark corners when you exit your car, the lighting can be turned on and off with the app.

Heading out to the garage with your hands full? Turn on the lights before you go.

Hear someone or something suspicious in the garage? Turn on the lights to let ’em know you are “watching.”

Cool Feature 3. Real Time Alerts.

You can set your app to notify you when the garage door opens and closes so you know when loved ones come and go.

Cool Feature 4. Amazon In-Garage Deliveries.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Available to Amazon Prime members in an expanding area of the country, the Amazon Key program lets you authorize Amazon to open your garage door for a secure delivery. As delivery time approaches, Amazon verifies the package belongs to your address and when it is near the door, the door is opened automatically for the driver. It closes after a short time as well. You receive alerts upon delivery while keeping your packages safe and dry. With our new Raynor Sentinel opener incorporating video, you can also see when packages are delivered.

Check availability of this service in your area.

Cool Feature 5. Pre-set close times.

Never worry again if you have inadvertently left the garage door open. You can set it to close automatically at a pre-set time any day of the week.

Cool Feature 6. Scheduled lighting.

Same as above, you can also use the MyQ app to set when you’d like the garage opener lights to turn on/off independently of the door’s operation. That can include automatic operation of supplementary LED lights noted in #2 above.

Cool Feature 7. Invite Guest Use.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Invite up to 3 guests to control your myQ connected doors and lights using their own myQ app and secure login. Consider how much more convenient it would be for parents, caregivers or any others you would like to have access. (Not intended for children under age 13.)

Cool Feature 8. Integrate With Home Automation Systems.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

The list of MyQ smart partners is growing rapidly. With a few setup steps in the apps, you can begin monitoring and controlling your garage door through popular platforms such as Apple® Homekit, Xfinity®, Wink®, Alarm.com and more to come. Use voice commands to open and close your door. Check activity of all devices, all in one app. Or, for further flexibility, add selected other devices to your MyQ app to control them there.

Cool Feature 9. Customize Your Notifications.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

As with many well-planned apps, MyQ notifications can be set to your personal preferences. If you’d like to have alerts pop up on your smart phone, even when it is locked, that is easily done. Notifications can be customized as well, ranking the type of notices you wish to see now vs later when manually checking the app. For example, receive alerts only when the door is left open for a certain period of time.

Cool Feature 10. Remote Operation.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

Yes, that original capability to open/close your door from afar is still pretty cool and is deserving to be on our top ten list. You’ll know what we mean if you ever realize (or wonder if) you’ve forgotten to close your home’s garage door just as you are climbing on an airplane. Cool indeed.

Can I install it on my current garage door opener?

Yes, if you have a door opener manufactured after 1993, and if it is the brand LiftMaster, Chamberlain or Craftsman (Sears). There are also other brands that you can add this application to. Visit our FAQ section on this subject.

1. What is myQ Technology?

myQ is an Internet Activation and Monitoring Protocol for garage door systems. With this technology, a smartphone or tablet can be used to monitor and control your garage door opener from anywhere in the world.

2. Can I connect a myQ opener directly to my phone or computer?

No. You must use a myQ Internet Gateway connected to a home router. The router must have a continuously active internet connection (also known as broadband internet). A dial-up connection is not acceptable.

3. What are the necessary items required to establish a residential myQ system?

  • A myQ compatible Garage Door Opener
  • A Chamberlain myQ Connectivity Kit (The Protector System (IR Beams) & the myQ Gateway with power pack and cables).

The homeowner requires:

  • A home router with continuous Ethernet connection port.
  • Smart phone or tablet to access the myQ app.

4. Can any other device be controlled with the myQ Internet Gateway?

The myQ Internet Gateway device will work with any garage door opener with the myQ logo. This includes products from Chamberlain, Merlin and Grifco. If the opener has Wi-Fi connection, the myQ Internet Gateway is not needed. Check for the Wi-Fi logo on your opener to make sure.

5. How do I connect to the internet?

Follow the steps in the Chamberlain QUICK START GUIDE (supplied with the opener) to create an account and download the free myQ App.

How to set up myq to open your garage door from your smartphone

All it takes is a swipe of the finger, and you can open, close and monitor your garage door, no matter where in the world you happen to be. It’s not an exaggeration – you could be in Hong Kong, and you could still regulate your garage door back in the United States! With LiftMaster MyQ ® technology, there are no geographic barriers!

Your Android, Apple or iPhone serve as a long‑distance means of controlling not just your garage door, but also your home’s lighting and small appliances. Welcome to the 21 st century!

There’s Finally an App for That!

The MyQ ® app is the product of the brilliant minds at Chamberlain, the manufacturer of LiftMaster door openers. Since there’s an app for just about everything else in our lives, they saw no reason why there shouldn’t be one for garage door openers. Accordingly, they created one and unveiled it at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2012, where it quickly became a star attraction.

Like all good apps, this one is user friendly. All it takes is an Ethernet cable, which is provided, and a power adapter, which is also provided. The cable gets you securely and safely connected to the Internet, while the power adapter delivers the right amount of electricity to your router. Then, you download an Internet gateway, register it, and add your door opener and other devices.

About the Technology

In order for the app to work, the gateway must “learn” the device. Some garage door openers that were made after 1998 already have this technology built in – your LiftMaster professional can answer any questions you might have.

Once the gateway is in place, you’ll need to get the right app for your smartphone, depending on whether it’s Android (Google Play), or Apple (IOS). Once that component is in place, it’s a simple matter of adding the door opener. If you have multiple doors, add them (and other devices) as well.

Now you’re good to go – in full control of your garage door no matter where in the world you happen to be. Monitoring is a snap, because the gateway and the opener are always communicating by means of radio signals.

No More Headaches!

When you can control your garage door using your smartphone, you never have to worry about whether you’ve remembered to close it. You know it happens. You’re on your way to work, or rushing to catch a flight, and it hits you – you might have forgotten to close the garage door. So you have to go back and check, and maybe you end up late for work or missing your flight. And nine times out of ten, the door was closed anyway.

With the MyQ ® app, you could have just touched a button on your smartphone and known instantly whether the door was open or closed. And you could have continued on your way, after just using the app to close the door. It couldn’t be easier.

Monitoring

You’ve worked hard to own your home, and you want to protect it. With the MyQ ® app, you can know instantly if someone has entered your garage. As soon as the door is opened, an alert is activated, and the system will notify you either by a message on your phone or an email, depending on how you’ve configured the app. Not only will you know that the door has been opened, you’ll be able to find out how long it’s been open.

Deliveries Made Easy

You bought yourself something you’ve always wanted on eBay, and you know it’s coming. But you might not be home when the delivery service arrives. No problem! Just find out what service the shipper is using, and get in touch with them. Ask to be notified when your package is being delivered. You can open the garage door from anywhere, and have the package deposited safely inside – no more weather damage, and no chance of it being stolen!

Oh, and if the driver doesn’t close the garage door after dropping off the package? Again, no problem – you can do it!

When You’re Without Your Phone

Okay, so not only did you (maybe) forget to close the garage door, you also left your smartphone at home. You’re having a bad day. But it gets better – just sit down at your desk and use your computer to access the MyQ ® website. You’ll have access to all the functions you need to control your garage door, even without your phone.

You can add a MyQ Garage Door to your Alarm.com account by having your monitoring company enable the LiftMaster Garage Door feature on your account. Then use the Alarm.com website to pair the module with your account. You will need the MyQ Serial Number for the garage door controller.

The MyQ Garage Door integration for Alarm.com offers some nice benefits. You will be able to access the Alarm.com platform from your phone or a web browser to open or close your garage door. The Alarm.com integration will also allow you to include your garage door with smart scenes so that it opens or closes automatically when predetermined events occur. You will also be able to set a time-based schedule for the garage door for automatic control.

There are some important things to keep in mind when using a MyQ Garage Door Controller with Alarm.com. First, you should understand that the integration occurs through the MyQ App and the MyQ Servers. The MyQ Garage Door Controller module itself will not speak directly with Alarm.com. Instead, the MyQ Garage Door is speaking with the MyQ Servers, and the MyQ Servers then forward any incoming information to Alarm.com. A command to open or close the garage door will be sent from Alarm.com to the MyQ Servers, and then on to the MyQ garage door controller. As a result, a problem with the MyQ Servers will prevent the module from working with Alarm.com.

Second, compatibility with Alarm.com is based on whether or not the MyQ Garage Door Controller associates with the MyQ App and the MyQ Servers. The MyQ brand is a sub-category for LiftMaster Garage Doors. Any garage door that interfaces with the MyQ App can ultimately be integrated with the Alarm.com platform. All MyQ-branded garage doors should be able to do this. But not all LiftMaster Garage Doors are used with the MyQ App. Those garage door controllers that do not interface with MyQ cannot be used with Alarm.com except through a Z-Wave garage door controller such as the Linear GD00Z-8-GC.

Third, you will need to provide the MyQ Serial Number for the MyQ Garage Door Controller when completing the integration. The MyQ Serial Number is different than the Product Serial Number for the device, but they are often easily confused. Both the MyQ Serial Number and the Product Serial Number are found underneath a flip-up cover for the module. We recommend taking a picture of the sticker that provides the MyQ Serial Number and the Product Serial Number and storing it somewhere safe for easy access later. You can also find the MyQ Serial Number on your smartphone when you use the MyQ App to connect the garage door controller module to a WIFI network.

The fourth consideration is that the MyQ Garage Door Controller must be online and connected with a WIFI network when completing the integration with Alarm.com. Most MyQ Garage Door Controllers can only be used with 2.4 GHz WIFI networks, and they will not interface with 5 GHz WIFI networks. Finally, make sure that the MyQ Remote LED Light is properly set up and enabled with your MyQ Garage Door Controller. Without the MyQ Remote LED Light, the garage door can still be displayed on Alarm.com, but you will not be able to control the module remotely.

For this FAQ, we will make the following assumptions:

  • You have a compatible MyQ Garage Door that has already been set up and connected with a local WIFI network using the MyQ App.
  • You already have access to Alarm.com through an appropriate monitoring plan.
  • You already have the MyQ Serial Number for the device. Remember, the MyQ Serial Number is different than the Product Serial Number.
  • You already have the MyQ Remote LED Light installed and set up with the garage door controller.

Once all of above assumptions are true, complete the following steps to add a MyQ Garage Door Controller to your Alarm.com account:

1. Enable the LiftMaster integration. A MyQ Garage Door Controller is paired with Alarm.com using the LiftMaster integration. This integration can only be enabled by your alarm monitoring company. Contact your provider, and ask them to enable the feature, if they haven’t already. Please note that Alarm Grid customers who use Alarm.com for automation control can have this feature enabled at no additional cost.

2. Enter the Alarm.com website. Open a web browser, and access the Alarm.com website. Login to your Alarm.com account using your credentials. You must be using the Alarm.com website, not the mobile app.

3. Start the integration process. On the left side of the screen, choose Settings . Look under Manage Devices , and choose Add Device then choose Garage Door . You should see an option to select a MyQ Internet Gateway. Then click Next.

4. Provide the MyQ SN. As part of the integration, you will be required to provide the MyQ Serial Number for the garage door motor. Make sure to enter this Serial Number exactly as it is displayed on the product.

To get your myQ opener connected to your home Wi-Fi, you’ll need a few things. Gather up your smartphone or tablet, and your Wi-Fi network name and password. The overall process should take less than twenty minutes.

For an Apple device:

  1. Create a myQ account. If you already have one, log into the myQ app.
  2. Tap “myQ Smart Garage Hub” on the Device Setup screen.
  3. Review and tap “Next” on the What You Need screen.
  4. Plug in the myQ Smart Garage Hub and tap Next.

A1 Garage is proud to announce that we now stock and install Liftmaster myQ Smartphone Universal Garage Door Controllers. Use your smartphone to control most modern garage door openers and gate operators from anywhere.

Transform your average garage door into a smart garage door!

The myQ smart garage door opener provides you with much more than just the ability to control it from anywhere with the help of your smartphone. It has a whole host of features that will benefit homeowners, keeping your property and family safe and secure, using a simple and convenient app.

Features and Benefits

Garage Door Open and Close Alert – With your myQ app, you can set up an alert to inform you when your garage door opens or closes. This feature lets you know when family members are coming and going. You can check that the kids have closed the garage after leaving for school or know that your spouse has got home safely. It also highlights any suspicious activity, so if your garage door is opened and it wasn’t you or someone you know who could do it, you can take action straight away.

Never Worry About Your Garage Door Being Left Open Again – We’ve all experienced that feeling of dread: did I really close the garage door? You can ask yourself this question on the way to work and end up turning back and wasting precious time. Or even worse, if you are on vacation, and this question might ruin your trip by playing on your mind. This will no longer be an issue as you will be able to find out from the app if your garage door is open or closed and then close it from wherever you are, be it in an important business meeting or on vacation on the other side of the world. You can also schedule your garage door to open and close at specific times.

Safety in Mind – When you close the garage door using the myQ app, there will be an audible alarm and a bright light that flashes on and off to warn anyone near it that the door is going to close.

Simple Installation – Installation of the device is simple and completely wireless. There’s a metal bracket mounted in the garage wall or ceiling that holds the myQ hub and comes included with its fittings. The sensor is affixed to the garage door with some double-sided tape that comes included.

Included Integrations – myQ offers free integration with these services: Alarm.com, Amazon Key, Alpine-in vehicle dash system, Clare Controls, Tend, Honeywell Total Connect, Wink, and Xfinity. You can also choose subscription-based integrations, including Google Assistant and IFTTT.

Allow Those You Trust to Access Your Garage – The garage can be one of the busiest access points of the home, but you are in total control of who accesses it and when. You can add up to five users that you know and trust to the myQ app by sending an invite and setting them up with guest profiles.

However, It might be that you need a tradesperson, friend, neighbor, or delivery driver to enter your garage when you aren’t about. You can arrange a time for them to be there when you open the garage door remotely and close it when they have done what they need to do.

This is perfect for delivery drivers when you want them to drop off a package that needs to be kept secure and out of any inclement weather. In addition, if you are an Amazon Prime member, there’s an even greater benefit when it comes to deliveries.

Link Your myQ Garage Device to Amazon Key for Safe and Secure Deliveries

For Amazon Prime members in select areas across the U.S, another benefit of investing in a myQ compatible garage door opener is that it is compatible with Amazon Key. This enables Amazon customers the convenience of contactless delivery straight to their garage.

Once your garage door opener is connected to the myQ service, it is simple to set up the Amazon Key app without any additional installation required.

The way it works is simple– once you have linked your myQ device to Amazon Key for In-Garage Delivery, you can use it for any package you are getting delivered by Amazon.

If you aren’t at home to receive the delivery, a driver will open your garage door using a hand-held scanner. The delivery driver will leave the package inside the garage out of any vehicles’ path and then close the door using the scanner. You’ll be kept informed at each step from a notification that the package is out for delivery: that the driver has arrived, that the delivery is completed, and that the garage door has been closed securely.

As well as the convenience of having your Amazon items delivered securely when you are out of the house, be it at work or on vacation. The package will also be safe from damaging weather such as rain or hot sun. Even if you are indoors and prefer a contactless delivery, you can still take advantage of in-garage delivery, so you have no interaction with the driver.

As Amazon’s top priority is to protect their customers’ security and privacy, Amazon drivers are screened and are not given keys or access codes to your garage. You are also in complete control and have the option to block access to your garage using the app if you decide to change your mind on the day the package is to be delivered. Additionally, if the delivery was not completed to your satisfaction, or your property or the package was damaged, you are entitled to file a claim.

Though not required, an optional Amazon Key compatible camera such as the myQ Smart Garage Camera will allow you to watch your deliveries in real-time.

$19.98 $30.00 $10 off

This new version of the MyQ simplifies the setup tremendously. It doesn’t even have to attach to the garage door opener anymore. It comes with a mounting plate so you can put it on any wall in your garage. All you’re doing is taking what already exists and making it smarter. The product page can show you all the garage door openers the MyQ is compatible with, but it basically includes anything made after 1993. Of course, you also need a router with Wi-Fi strong enough to reach your garage. Might need to upgrade to a mesh network if that’s not the case. The installation for the MyQ is simple, takes just a few minutes, and comes with step-by-step instructions in the MyQ app that should easy super easy to follow. This new version simplifies it with Bluetooth, but you will need a router within 50-feet of the garage and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band to connect to.

So what functionality can the MyQ give you? For one thing, you won’t have to worry about those bulky clip-on garage door buttons anymore. With the MyQ app, you can just pull up your smartphone and press a button to open or close the door. The app can also send you notifications. For example, if you forget to close the door and you’ve already driven off, the notification might say “Your garage door has been open since 8 a.m.” And then you can fix that issue even while you’re at work.

You can also create guest access, which lets up to three people control the garage with the MyQ Guest Feature. In a similar vein, you can sign up with Amazon Key to let Amazon delivery drivers briefly access your garage and place your packages inside. That’s a nice and simple way to secure your packages and keep them out of the rain until you get home.

The MyQ works with some other smart home systems, too. However, in the past the MyQ has charged a subscription fee ($1 a month) to do that. If you want voice control, you can connect the MyQ to a Google Assistant device. It also works with the Wink hub, Nest, and more.
