Gangula Kamalkar started his Political journey in 2000 with DP. From 2000-2005, he was served as Councilor and Telugu Dessam Party Floor Leader, Karimnagar Municipality. Further from 2005-2009, he worked as the corporator and TDP Floor Leader. From 2006-2007 he was appointed as Vice-President of Telugu Dessam Party, Karimnagar District. From 2009-2014 he worked as a member of the 13th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the TDP.
In 2013 he joined the TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) Party. From 2014-2018 he was served as the Member of the 1st Telangana Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the TRS Party. In 2018, he was elected as a member of the 2nd Telangana Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Karimnagar. Currently, Gangula Kamalkar is the Minister for BC Welfare, Food & Civil Supplies, Administration & Consumer Affairs, Government of Telangana.
