Galesburg fire leaves home ‘total loss’

A fire left a Galesburg home a ‘total loss’ with preliminary damage estimates at $25,000.
The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the 1900 block of Baird Ave. Monday, January 22 at 10:15 a.m. The response included the Galesburg three stations and 13 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke and fire from the rear of the residence. The Brooks Street Station crew used a hose line to extinguish the bulk of the fire from the exterior before entering the building. The Central Station crew established a water supply from a nearby hydrant and performed a search of the residence for any potential victims. The Fremont Street Station crew performed a secondary search, and there were no occupants inside the residence. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Galesburg Fire Investigators and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
