A Quad City mother, accused of nearly starving her special-needs child to death in May, has been sentenced to serve 10 years in prison.
Valarie Rae Clark of Eldridge entered a negotiated plea agreement in a Scott County courtroom.
Child endangerment charges were dropped, but she pleaded guilty to neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.
Clark’s son was near death when he was admitted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Authorities say Clark and her live-in boyfriend failed for three years to feed Logan the diet required by a genetic disorder, PKU, which kept him from digesting proteins properly.
Clark’s boyfriend, Jacob Brasmer, received a deferred sentence of one year probation in April.
