Last month Costco announced their intention to build a store on 53rd street in Davenport.
While most people are welcoming the idea some are concerned about the traffic.
Costco representatives held a meeting Thursday night to inform property owners about their plans and to hear their concerns.
Costco representatives say they have looked at all their possible options in the area, and this is the best location because of the almost 18 acres the warehouse needs.
Costco is looking at the north side of 53rd Street West of the Fire Station No. 8.
The development will include the large Costco warehouse and a members only gas station.
Officials say it will bring more than 175 jobs to the area.
They also say they’ll put in a stoplight to help ease traffic, but many residents are still concerned with congestion in an already crowded area.
Costco also has twelve delivery trucks per day.
That has some neighbors worried about how the trucks will affect their roads.
“The streets are horrible in our neighborhood, the impact of people cutting through and I don’t know how our streets are going to take it. They’re full of potholes now,” says a concerned neighbor.
“You have hours that are employee friendly, and its something that we need in the quad cities, but maybe just reassessing the location,” says a concerned neighbor.
“So we’ll have including the Fire Station four traffic signals in less than a mile, which necessitates obviously people stopping and going and with texting and the smartphones and the rear-end accidents that are occurring there now that’s just super dangerous”
Now Costco has not submitted an application to the city just yet.
They are still finalizing some of their assessments.
They hope to submit their application with all their research by the end of this month.
Once that is submitted, the city will do their own analysis and have other public meetings to finalize the development.
