Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of a fire that started Saturday in the walls between apartments at the Fox Pointe Apartments on the 4200 block 7th Street in East Moline.

The fire started shortly after 4:15 p.m., said firefighters, who had the fire extinguished by 6:15 p.m. Crews told Local 4 News it was difficult to reach the fire because it was in the walls.

A woman who reported the fire said she smelled smoke after an electrical issue in the apartment where she was dog-sitting for her daughter.

Crews had to cut a hole in the roof to reach the blaze. Seven apartments were affected by smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported.
