Breaking Bad Movie in the Works from Series Creator Vince Gilligan

Five years after its finale, it appears that Breaking Bad will return in a new feature film.

Variety has confirmed that series creator Vince Gilligan is working on a two-hour movie with “ties to the beloved series”. It is unclear if this supposed film will be released in theaters or on AMC.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the film’s working title is called “Greenbriar” and will follow “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.”. The project is expected to go into production in mid-November through early February.

Breaking Bad first aired on AMC in 2008 and ran through for five critically acclaimed seasons. Throughout its run, the series won many awards and is still considered today as one of the best TV shows in history.

The series revolved around the rise and fall of Chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston). After being diagnosed with lung cancer, Walter decides to partner up with one of his old students, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), to manufacture and sell meth in order to provide a secure future for his family. From the synopsis given above, it seems that this Breaking Bad film will not be a prequel like its spinoff, Better Call Saul, and instead act as a followup to Jesse’s escape in the finale of the original series.

Aaron Paul has been busy as of late with his new series Are You Sleeping and his upcoming major role in HBO’s Westworld. However, a two-hour long film is a lot easier to manage than spending months upon months shooting a full season of a TV show. If you don’t believe me, just ask Andrew Lincoln. The Walking Dead actor has left the longtime zombie series for good but is expected to return as Rick Grimes in his own standalone movie trilogy.
