98 contestants from various backgrounds were selected from thousands of applicants for the show. They then split evenly into two groups: the K-group and the G-group.

The show serves as the sequel to Girls’ Planet 999 (2021), this time featuring all male contestants.

Boys Planet Concept

Boys Planet uses a space theme: two groups of contestants, K-group and G-group, act as “planets” and the show’s hosts are dubbed “Star Masters”. Under the guidance of seven “Masters”, the contestants must go through several rounds of evaluation, during which they must show off their skills in singing, dancing, and rapping.

While its predecessor, Girls’ Planet 999, limited applications to South Korea, Japan, and China, this season expanded the regions to allow international participation.

The trainees were selected through two rounds of applications, the first from 11 December 2021 to 11 February 2022 and the second from 27 June 2022 to 21 August 2022. The finalists were selected regardless of nationality, or affiliation with any agency. , or prior experience and professional history as a singer.

Boys Planet Voting System

The Mnet Plus mobile app will be the primary platform for voting and accessing content related to the contestants. Unlike Girls Planet 999, where viewers had to cast separate votes for each group, the votes would be allocated to individual contestants and this time split equally between the two groups. To ensure transparency and fairness in voting-related processes from aggregation to results, the voting system is being audited by an external agency, Samil PwC.
