A bill allowing teachers to be armed in Iowa passed a House subcommittee.
As introduced, House Bill 675 would authorize school employees to obtain a professional permit to carry weapons on school property, if all required training is completed. Those issued the permit would be entitled to qualified immunity from criminal or civil liability.
The bill would also require school districts with more than 8,000 students to have a resource officer at each high school.
