Benjamin Eric Sasse was born in Plainview, Nebraska on February 22, 1972. His father, Gary Lynn Sasse was a high school teacher and football coach. His mother is Linda Sasse. He met his wife Melissa McLeod on a college trip. The couple married and had three children – Corrie, Alex and Breck.

In 1990, he completed his secondary education at Fermont High School. He is also the valedictorian of his class.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in 1994. In 1988, he obtained his Master’s degree in Liberal Studies from St. John’s. In addition, he has also obtained two postgraduate degrees respectively Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy. He was selected as a Harvey member by The Mustard Seed Foundation in 2000.
In 2004, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in American History from Yale University. Jon Butler and Harry Stout are the directors of his thesis titled “The Anti-Madalyn Majority: The Secular Left, the Religious Right, and Reagan’s Rise of America”. Sasse has won the Theron Rockwell Field Award and the George Washington Egleston for the same award.

Early career of Benjamin Sasse
Prior to entering US politics, Sasse worked at the Boston Consulting Group as an Associate Advisor from 1994 to 1995. He later served as a Christian Counselor/CEO Solidarity for Reform (CURE). When CURE merged with the Alliance of Confessions Evangelicals (ACE), Ben was its CEO in California.
In 2004, he joined the Legal Policy Office as Chief of Staff. At the same time, he was teaching at the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor part-time and then continued full-time.

After leaving the Office of Legal Policy in 2005, Ben served as Chief of Staff for U.S. Representative Jeff Fortenberry and as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security.
The following year, he became Advisor to the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services. In 2007, he was nominated by George W. Bush for the position of Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation. He served there until 2009.
From 2010 to 2014, Sasse was the 15th President of Midland University. He then entered American politics for a period of eight years. In January 2023, Ben resigned from the United States Senate. Currently, he is succeeding Kent Fuchs as the President Designated President of the University of Florida.
