Band Shell dedicated to Ellis Kell

The band shell at Schweibert Park is now the Ellis Kell Band Shell.

The Laura’s Legacy Concert Celebration was Saturday. To kick it off, Rock Island Parks And Recreation, and the Rock Island Arts Advisory Committee dedicated the band shell to local music legend Ellis Kell.

Kell passed away in December from cancer, after dedicating his life to educating kids about music. 

Now, his name will be on the band shell for many years to come. 

As a tribute to Kell, one of his original songs played after the dedication ceremony. 

“He would be so proud, and we just thank the community so much for this. You know, he’s everywhere, I mean, and we’re so thankful for that,” said Ellis’ wife, Kristi Kell. 

Proceeds from admission went to support ALS research.
