Among Us image confuses Reddit

Long-time Reddit users will already recognise the ‘this meme is from the future’ meme format, but an edited version of the post has confused Among Us players.
‘This meme is from the future’ is a long-standing one and, like the ‘we live in a society’ meme, which, btw, we also explained here, it can be a bit of a brain-tease.
But you want to get in on the inside joke, right? We’ve got you covered.
Just a warning: the Among Us meme is edited.
What is the meaning of ‘this meme is from the future’?
Essentially, ‘this meme is from the future’ is used as a joke with an image that makes zero sense, insinuating the only reason people don’t find it funny yet is because it’s from the future.
To really understand the meme, let’s go back to the beginning. As Know Your Meme reports, Reddit user DanknessIn_MemesOut posted the original version in 2016. The image included a yellow-tinted image of an old man being attacked by three multi-colored mini versions of himself.
Makes no sense? That’s the point. The text read: “This meme is from the future. You don’t get the reference yet.”
Of course, the meme wasn’t actually from the future… we think.
Within days it had become a meta meme, with images being made of the meme travelling back in time from 42069 and on a ‘meme of the month chart’ for the same year.
Ironically, the meme did actually turn out to be a meme from the future, albeit only a few days.
Now, people use the same concept of the text being paired with a nonsensical image.
Where does Among Us come into it?
Alternative variations of the meme have risen on Reddit. After DanknessIn_MemesOut posted the original meme, they went on to post many different versions.
A colour block version, which looks like the Among Us players, has surfaced on Reddit, sparking suspicions of some kind of time-traveling meme behaviour. However, searching through the DanknessIn_MemesOut account’s posts on Reddit shows no evidence of the post at all, meaning the image was edited.
Unfortunately, no time traveling here, just a meta meme that doesn’t appear to exist.
