UPDATE: News Director Eric Olsen visited the Quad Cities International Airport earlier Friday as heavy snow fell. A United plane was being de-iced and prepared for takeoff, as you can see in the video above.

But not many flights left Moline on Friday. Only a United flight to Chicago and an American flight to Charlotte left — both by 8:01 a.m. — according to the airport’s website.

All of the airport’s remaining departures for the day have been canceled and only one more arrival is listed as expected: An American flight from Dallas/Fort Worth is “on time” for a 9:06 p.m. landing.

“There will likely be cancellations Saturday morning as well, even if the active weather has ended, since the late night flights are the planes used for the early morning bank of flights departing from MLI,” the airport’s Ashleigh Davis told Our Quad Cities News. “Crews will continue to work 24 hours a day (in 12-hour shifts between two rotating teams) until everything is cleared regardless of flight statuses.”

Heavy, but fluffier snow so far in Quad Cities

News Director Eric Olsen was out in the elements for a live report on Our Quad Cities News This Morning.

Watch the video below for an update on traffic and a “heavy, but fluffier” snowfall to start your Friday.

UPDATE: News Director Eric Olsen was live again at 8 a.m. showing the difference between the main roads and neighborhood streets.

UPDATE: Around 8:30 a.m., an Our Quad Cities News crew saw city snow plows out in Moline and Rock Island on the main roads.

Several private plows were clearing snow, too. But as you can see in the video below from 14th Avenue in Rock Island, the smaller ones sometimes avoid the biggest snow drifts.
