Cyberpunk is coming to Nintendo Switch but it isn’t the one everyone is talking about. QubicGames announced that its 2D side-scrolling RPG Dex is coming to the console. From the looks of it, it’s a blend of Cyberpunk 2077 and Deus Ex with some Metroid-style exploration and combat as well.

You will play as Dex, a mysterious blue-haired girl on a mission to take down the powerful and enigmatic organization that rules the city of Harbour Prime. Like with other RPGs, Dex features a selection of upgrades and skills for Dex and four distinct playstyles to choose from. The different options include silent assassin, gunfighter, diplomat, and hacker.

“Blur the line between being human and ‘cyborg’ by installing augmentations that grant you superhuman abilities and open up new paths in Harbour Prime like classic Metroidvania titles.”

From the trailer, it looks just like what I think Deus Ex would look like if it were reimagined as a 2D game. There’s plenty of guns and weapons to choose from and you can even hack into machines to enter Cyberspace, which acts as a sort of mini-game within the game.

“The world of Dex is designed as a tribute to some of the greatest neo-noir and cyberpunk worlds with a mature storyline, murky atmosphere and distinct characters. Gameplay is a throwback to classic 2D platforming and action games but mixed with deep RPG elements, interactive dialogues and real-time combat.”

“Customize your character’s skills and equipment to match your desired playstyle – kill from shadows as a silent assassin, fight the power head on as a gunfighter, use persuasion like a sly diplomat or fight from a distance in cyberspace as a hacker. Blur the line between being human and «cyborg» by installing augmentations that grant you superhuman abilities.”

Dex releases for the Nintendo Switch on July 24th.
