2 people killed in plane crash identified

UPDATE: The Office of Warren County Coroner identified the two people who died in a plane crash in Monmouth on Sunday.

Robert V. Burkhart, 65, of Peoria and Roger D. Lundeen, 72, of Galesburg died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

EARLIER REPORT 

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office an aircraft crashed about a half mile from the Monmouth Airport. The call came just after 11a.m. Sunday morning. Police say witnesses directed first responders to a brush area where a fire crew extinguished the burning aircraft. 

Two people were located on the plane and declared dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner. Their names are not being released at this time. 

No one on the ground was injured. 

Crews say they believe it was a private aircraft. 

Several surrounding departments responded to the scene.

The incident is now being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
